Need to determine how clear the water is? Measure the water's degree of visibility with our turbidity tubes. This tube measures turbidity in streams where a secchi disk can't be used. The clear polycarbonate tube is 60 or 120 cm in length and features a centimeter scale on one side and a secchi disk design, 4.5 cm in diameter, on the bottom. The secchi design is screwed to a rubber stopper that removes for cleaning. Drain the tube with the drain hose and attached finger crimp. • In two lengths for different turbidity requirements • Ideal for GLOBE program • Economical How to use: 1. Fill the tube with water sample and look down the tube. 2. Drain off water until the secchi disk design is visible. 3. Record the reading on the scale. |

This inexpensive, compact and lightweight device has become a staple in the field and is similar in function to the periphyton. The most adaptable artificial substrate sampler on the market, it’s EPA recommended in 2 versions. Suspend it, float it or attach it to submerged objects such as boulders or stakes. Leave it in place for 2 or more weeks, then scrape the “critters” off the plates and analyze in the lab. Rubber tubing allows for swelling of the plates when they absorb water. Constructed of 1/8” (3 mm) thick tempered masonite for longer field life, with nylon spacers and SS hardware. We provide a wingnut at the bottom for easy disassembly. 9-Plate Square Hester Dendy: • 0.10m2 sampling area • 9 - 76 x 76 mm (3 x 3”) plates 14-Plate Round Hester Dendy (EPA): • Meets EPA specifications* • Fits 89 mm threaded plastic Mason jars • 14 variable spaced plates, 75 mm (3”) in diameter, separated with 8 single nylon spacers; 1 double; 2 triple; 2 quadruple • Surface area: 0.16 m2 • Rough and smooth surfaces 14-Plate Square Hester-Dendy (EPA): New! Here’s a new, larger square multi-plate sampler that’s been well-researched in the field. Its 14 square plates are separated by 24 round spacers - 8 single, 1 double, 2 triple, 2 quadruple. Generally 5 are used together, tied to a weight to prevent contact with natural substrates. Meets EPA specs! • 14 plates, each 7.6 cm square (3”) • 24 nylon spacers, each 2.5 cm (1”) diameter • Surface area: 0.16 m2 (excluding eyebolt) • Eyebolt: 1/4” (0.64-cm) |
