Sampling Square

Sampling Square

High school scientists need scientific data on which to base their conclusions...
Now it's easy to quantify the results of a field study with our folding sampling square.
• The folding sampling square cleanly and quickly marks off a quarter of a meter squared (0.25m x 0.25m). Place it in front of a large kick net when you're sampling for macrobenthos in a stream, for instance. Kick up the stream bed in just the area marked out by the plastic rods. When you know how many "critters" can be found in a known area - you can extrapolate out for the entire length of the stream!

• Our sampling square is as simple but as sensible as an umbrella in a rainstorm. When you unfold it, it "explodes" open due to the use of a durable shock cord inside the PVC pipe legs. Connections are made with T-connectors which allow the frame to sink. Lightweight and portable, now there's no excuse not to quantify your results.

Set of 12 each: Al, Brass, PVC, and Tecaform (48 total)

These 48 samples of varying lengths from 4 different materials have a lot to tells us about the natural world. This clever lab is actually four sets of samples, with tweleve (12) pieces in each set, each sample of different lengths. Determine the mass and volume of each sample and then graph mass vs. volume. The slope of the straight line reveals the density of the material! The attractive wood holder allows the teacher to see immediately when all the samples have been returned! Includes 12 each of the following materials: aluminum, brass, PVC and Tecaform for a total of 48 pieces. Set also includes instructions and an attractive wood holder, with linseed coating for protection, holding all the

A complete key is included for identification. Activities include the effect of the focal length of a telescope on image size, and estimating the distances to two galaxies by comparing images taken by the same telescope and the identification of deep sky objects. One set could be ordered for each student to accompany the activity book, Where We Are in Space and Time, or a few sets could be ordered by the teacher for use in the classroom.
Smart Photogate Timer

Smart Photogate Timer

Why pay more when this accurate and versatile timer does far more for far less? You can measure the time interval between two photogates, measure the time it takes to pass through one photogate, measure acceleration of a released ball, determine the acceleration due to gravity (with a picket fence), determine elastic and inelastic collision times, calculate cycles, determine the frequency of a rotating object, determine the period of a pendulum, and count time with great accuracy. Up to 20 data points can be stored in memory for instant recall, allowing you to watch the experiment as it happens and perform calculations after the fact. Unlike other basic models, our version even includes a magnetic ball drop. The unit is rechargeable and may be used with or without the adaptor, making it useful in a variety of settings. With operating instructions.
Smart Photogate Timer features include:
• Seven (7) functions
• Two (2) photogates
• Magnetic ball release
• AC and battery powered (rechargeable)
• Measures time to 0.0001 seconds
• Functions have up to 20 data points stored in memory for recall

Soil Thermometer

Soil Thermometer

Treat your seeds like you would your children - keep them warm while they're asleep.

It only makes sense that any growing thing needs enough warmth to survive. Seeds germinate successfully when the soil is the right temperature - that's why we can't plant too early. But when is that? With this thermometer, you'll take the guesswork out of your planting. It has the added benefit of teaching students about temperature by having them test the soil daily, maybe even chart their results.

The virtually indestructible thermometer gives readings of -15 to 65 degrees Celcius with easy-to-read numnbers. 32 cm (12.5") long, it includes a round push ball on the top for easy insertion into the soil, even if it is hard or dry.
Solar System Scale Model Kit

Solar System Scale Model Kit

Now your students can hold the solar system in their hands and get a real sense of how far away the planets are and how big they are in relation to one another. Using multiple combinations of these spheres, students can simulate the relationship of the planets to the sun, the moon to the planets, and planets to planets. One to four students can work simultaneously using different combinations of spheres with one lab. The kit includes: 10 marbles and balloons (small and large), beads, Styrofoam balls
• 3 plastic spheres
• map pins
• 1 earth globe
• physical data about the planets and moons
• 1 set of instructions & activities

Spectrum Projector

Spectrum Projector

Spectrum Projector Experience a clear and bright projected spectrum in a room that cannot be completely darkened and demonstrate the changing color of an incandescent object as its temperature changes with simple equipment. The spectrum projector includes all of the materials necessary to build a device that will produce a diffracted beam of light in two directions (two lab setups in one). A dimmer allows students to vary the temperature and brightness of an incandescent light bulb to study how the spectrum changes. A paraffin spectrum analyzer will show the students a bar graph of the projected spectrum. They can experiment with how objects of different colors appear in different colors of light. The kit contains: 2 squares of diffraction grating
• 2 cardboard tubes
• 2 collimated lenses (53mm diameter)
• 1 200-watt clear light bulb
• 1 socket with dimmer, lampholder cage, and power cord (assembly required)

Stringless Pendulum

Stringless Pendulum

The stringless pendulum demonstrates simple harmonic motion in a way that doesn't seem so tied down. Students will see the period of an oscillating body from a different perspective than the standard string and ball. The period of the 1 inch steel ball can be measured, and the distance to a focal point can be calculated to compare the demonstration to a classic pendulum. Includes pendulum track, 1 inch steel ball, and instructions.

Vacuum Lifter

Vacuum Lifter

Study the effect of air pressure with our 35-165 Vacuum Lifter and lift up to 50lbs! This 10.5 inch black rubber disk will apear to "adhere" to any flat smooth surface. Place the disc on a table and try to lift it off with the handle, it is almost impossible. Air pressure is approximately 15lbs per square inch, when all of the air is evacuated from under this disc this adds up to 1300lbs of pressure being applied to the Vacuum Lifter! With just a lift of the edge air is allowed under the disc and it will lift off easily. The 35-165 Vacuum Lifter should not be used to lift more than 50lbs.
